Six of eight outs are strikeouts for Chipola’s De Grandpré

By Jacques Lanciault, Canadian Baseball Network

Cédric De Grandpré, Chipola College, NJCAA DI

Cédric De Grandpré was used again in long relief and was a presence for almost three innings as the right-hander added six more strikeouts to his totals.

De Grandpré (Saint-Simon, Que.) was brought in after two were out in the third inning ... when there was a runner on third and his teammates, the Chipola College Indians from Florida, were only leading by 4-2.

De Grandpré retired the first batter he faced on a grounder to second base, ending the inning … and the threat.

In the next inning, the 19-year-old scored the inning’s first strikeout. Then, he gave up a walk before a second strikeout. He allowed a single that cost a run before ending inning with another strikeout.

In the fifth, for a second inning in a row, he recorded three strikeouts … allowing a walk in the process.

The former Baseball Canada Academy (ABC) was back at the mound for the sixth inning. He retired the first batter on a ball in infield. Then, he was replaced by a reliever.

In total, the 6-foot-1 athlete pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up a run on one hit and two walks … registering his six strikeouts.

Once again, De Grandpré had a compass in his eye during his shift. He threw 57 pitches, hitting the strike zone no less than 34 times, averaging almost 60%.

De Grandpré’s Quebec teammate with the Marianna-based team, Alfonso Villalobos (Kirkland, Que.) started at first base for his team. The youngster from held in check, going 0-for-3. He did, however, score in the fifth inning following a defensive error, as the Florida squad’s won 13-3 over the Andrew Tigers.

Among other Quebecers working in the network of American universities and colleges, we should point out that:

Adamo Stornello Hits

The Crowder College Roughriders of Missouri suffered a 10-2 loss at the expense of Johnson County Community College Cavaliers of Kansas.

Quebec baseball player Adamo Stornello (Montreal, Que.) was the starting catcher for this game for the Missouri Troops and brought in a 1-for-4 record. His teammate Nicolas Tremblay (Saint-Hilaire, Que.) did not take part in the meeting.

Victory and defeat for Cowley College

The Cowley College Tigers with Quebecers Félix-Antoine Chénier-Rondeau and Olivier Morin-Larocque, divided the honors of a double-sided program at Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds.

RF Chenier-Rondeau went 2-for-2 in a 12-3 loss and was hitless in the second game, an 8-4 win.
