Quebec’s Mathieu Vallée has reached an agreement with the Dallas Baptist University Patriots to continue his studies and his career with them next September.

Dallas Baptist competes in the NCAA Division I Missouri Valley Conference. Vallée (Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, Que.) is looking forward to competing at the NCAA Division I level.

Currently having a dream season with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Golden Norse, the 20-year-old became a player many American University recruiters eyed and he had received a few offers.

“Although I had a few offers this fall and throughout the season, I was waiting to make a decision,” Vallée said.

One of the main reasons Vallée will head to the Texan school is because one of his teammates will also be going there.

“Last season, our team’s shortstop decided to go play at Dallas Baptist, but due to COVID-19, he returned to NEO this season,” Vallée said. “He kept in touch with the coaches there.”

This winter the recruiter from Dallas Baptist asked for info and his teammate “had nothing but good news to tell them when they asked for information about me.”

“In the end, I decided to choose Dallas Baptist and their team because the offer was very good and the quality of play it offers,” he said. “I am also very happy with my decision, because we will both be there next year. “

Vallée is in his second NJCAA season, but due to cancellation of the season in early March last year due to COVID-19, the NCAA does not count 2020 as a year of eligibility. This means that Vallée will be able to play three seasons in the NCAA.

The former Bisons de Saint-Eustache of the Quebec Elite Junior League is having a phenomenal season, even though a shoulder injury limited him to DH duties for several games.

Vallée is batting .434, with 62 hits so far this season. Despite his size (5-foot-10 inches, 165 pounds), he has shown power with 18 doubles, five home runs and 37 RBIs. He also has a 1.202 OPS in 40 games.

His speed is also exceptional. He has already stolen 35 bases since the start of 2021. His 34th steal set a record for stolen bases among Quebec players who have played in American universities and colleges since the 2000 season.
