WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball player Alex Bedard is a senior outfielder and has enjoyed every moment at SWOSU, especially the winning atmosphere.

"These three years at SWOSU have been great," Bedard said. "This is a great place to play baseball and to be honest, I love everything about SWOSU. Everyone is here to win and I really feel like we have everything in place to win this season."

Bedard is a marketing major and has had dreams to play professional baseball since he was a kid. At the same time however, Bedard said he does not want to turn the page of the next chapter of his life just yet.

"My dream is to play professional baseball, which has been my lifelong dream ever since I was a child," Bedard said. "If this does not work out, I have some other options such as possibly coming back to SWOSU, being a Graduate Assistant and coaching here for a couple years. I also could work on my masters at SWOSU at the same time. I am just seeing where everything goes from here."

Bedard said the SWOSU baseball team has goals of making it far in the playoffs this season and everything is in place to do so.

"Hopefully, we can make it far in the Great American Conference and make a run in the postseason," Bedard said. "Our goal is to be playing the best baseball we can late in the Spring. We will see what happens and I really like our chances this Spring."

This past weekend, SWOSU had a home a series with #10 Southern Arkansas to begin the season at home. They lost the first two, but won the third game Saturday 5-2 and Bedard scored a run in that game. Monday, they played a home game against No. 23 Central Oklahoma and pulled off the upset, winning 5-4. Bedard scored a run and had two RBIs.

"We had a tough start this weekend," Bedard said. "We did not play our best baseball in our two losses against Southern Arkansas. We have to keep getting better, but we did finish strong in our final game against Southern Arkansas and in our game against Central Oklahoma."

Before coming to SWOSU, Bedard played baseball at Trinidad State Junior College, a junior college in Colorado and he said he recommends every college baseball player gets some JUCO baseball experience before playing college baseball.

"I believe JUCO baseball was a great learning experience," Bedard said. "I learned lots and playing at Trinidad State and it helped my college baseball career."

Bedard did not transfer directly to SWOSU. After playing at Trinidad State, he went to NYACK college, a college about 20 minutes away from Downtown New York City. He said when he was in New York, SWOSU head baseball coach Zack Saunders gave him a call to come play baseball at SWOSU.

"I really did not like my experience at NYACK," Bedard said. "That school really was not a good fit for me. Coach Saunders called me and wanted me to come play baseball for him at SWOSU. When we first met, we clicked right away and I really liked him and really liked his coaching style and what he believed in. Ever since I have been here, SWOSU has been so great to me."

Bedard said playing for coach Saunders is really special because of how much he cares about his players.

"I love playing for and being around coach Saunders," Bedard said. "He is going to tell you how it is, but will help you be better at the same time. He is an amazing human being and will do anything for his players. We are super fortunate to have him at SWOSU and he is a blessing to everyone around him."

When Bedard was growing up in Quebec, Bedard played travel baseball for a program called Académie de Baseball du Canada, ABC for short. He also said they have 11 grades, instead of 12 grades like in the United States.

"A year before I went to Trinidad State, I played one more year with ABC in sort of like a college, but I was not really in school," Bedard said. "With this, we played against other colleges and we were all trying to get recruited by colleges in the United States. It was a great opportunity to get my foot in the door of playing college baseball. Some schools offered me scholarships, but I chose to play at Trinidad State."

Bedard's favorite baseball team is the Toronto Blue Jays because it is the only Canadian team in Major League Baseball. Bedard's favorite color is blue and he does not know why. His favorite restaurant is Chick-Fil-A and his favorite sauce at Chick-Fil-A is Chick-Fil-A sauce.

Bedard said one of his favorite memories playing baseball as a kid was playing in a junior tournament in Toronto.

"One of my favorite memories playing baseball in a T-12 tournament in Canada," Bedard said. "We actually got to play in the same stadium the Toronto Blue Jays played in. It was all the prospects and best baseball players in every province in Canada. Players came from Quebec, Montreal and Ontorio just to name a few. Playing against the best junior baseball players in Canada was super cool and such a good experience."

Bedard also played hockey until he was 17 years old and enjoyed being on the ice.

"I have played hockey all of my life until I came to the United States to play baseball," Bedard said. "It was super fun and I really enjoyed playing hockey when I was not playing baseball."
