NDLR – Le site Internet « Canadian Baseball Network » publie depuis peu des textes relativement à des Québécois évoluant dans les universités et collèges américains. Il nous fait plaisir de vous en faire part.

Dany Coulombe

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College freshman Dany Coulombe-Lévesque, 21, (St-Léonard Qué.) pitched a seven-inning 6-0 shutout against the Maplewoods Community College Monarchs in Kansas City.

In the win he threw 95 pitches, 61 for strikes and added seven strikeouts to his total, bringing it up to 29.

With this win Coulombe has positioned himself as the ace of the NEO pitching staff.

It’s no small accomplishment if you refer to what coach Roger Ward said at the State of the franchise press conference held at the beginning of the season.

“This is one of those unique year where you go: ‘That guy could be our ace,’ and you can go six or seven deep like that and you’ve got Coulombe a young guy from Quebec Canada, who is as good as anybody on this team.”

Golden Norsemen Athletic director Dustin Grover added “He is a multiple pitch guy with good velocity, a competitor and a hard worker”.

Hard work paid off.

Coulombe-Lévesque, now leads his team in innings pitched (35 1/3), ERA (0.76), strikeouts (29) and wins with six. In those 35+ innings he scattered 25 hit and gave up only five runs — three earned. He also gave up only eight walks balls.

Coulombe has been so good, he’s amongst NJCAA division I pitching leaders in wins (fifth) and ERA (ninth) despite the fact that he is the pitcher with the most innings pitched amongst his rivals.

In fact, Coulombe (listed as Coulombe-Lévesque) has brought nothing but his A-Game to the mound for the past year.

Coulombe, who wears the Montréal Orioles jersey in the LBEQ during the summer, has been a workhorse past summer where he was the leader in innings pitched (86 1/3), second in starts (13) and tied for first in the league with 10 wins. He had a pretty good 8.57 K/9 ratio.

In the 2010 playoffs he held opposing batters to a .176 batting average and had a minuscule 0.84 ERA.

Dom Samyn (Montreal, Que.) contributed a two-run double to left-centre and Michael Page (L’Épiphanie, Qué.) had a pair of singles.

Dany Deschamps (Montréal, Qué.) singled in the nitecap, an 8-4 loss to Maple Woods.

Deschamps were two of the 13 extra base hits collected by NEO out of 26 safties in the 29-2 rout of the first game.

Deschamps homered in a 29-2 win over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa in the opener of a doubleheader earlier in the week. Deschamps doubled and scored the game winner in the nitecap, a 20-19 NEO win.

Samyn hit two home runs and collected seven RBIs.

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M college has a 18-7 record.
